NYC Photography Tips: Working with Light
By Douglas Gilbert
I'm fortunate to be surrounded by controlled lighting when creating family portraits NYC. As a headshot photographer NYC, I get to set the light to optimum levels. When I'm outside of my studio however, lighting can get tricky. Take a moment to examine the lighting and how it affects your subject. Which way are the shadows falling? It's generally a good rule of thumb to shoot with the sun behind you to prevent a silhouette effect. This will black out your subject. Keep a close eye on the affect light is having on your subject as well. You certainly don't want him or her squinting. To capture bold colors, try using bright light directly on your subject. Side lighting can add drama to your photo but can also cause extreme, hard-to-print contrasts. Another trick that I use as a headshot photographer NYC is indirect light. It makes my family portraits NYC radiate soft and pretty.
